The Bubbas’ Barbikyu
This
is a small business that began in late 2009.
The owners Chris and Jen Aberin (AKA The Bubbas) started a
barbikyu (BBQ) business selling their pork and chicken satay at
street festivals in
Their customers kept asking if The Bubbas catered, or sold their sauces. In addition, customers wanted to know where The Bubbas would be next. It soon became clear to The Bubbas that they needed a way to quickly answer these types of questions. I gave them the answer: You need a website.
Today, Jen and Chris’s website,
TheBubbas.com accomplishes many things.
It’s their business card with expanded information. It explains who they are, what they do, and how to get in contact with them.
It is also a resource for their growing group of fans. Their site includes a calendar so that fans can find out which street festivals to go to get this mouthwatering BBQ.
Its also a placeholder for future business. When they are ready to expand their business to ecommerce, they already have established their storefront online.
Jen and Chris drive traffic to the site by promoting their url on their signage, and on their business cards. We have also developed a social media strategy to include facebook and twitter to help drive traffic and fans to the site.

CSEA
Unit 8759
CSEA
Unit 8759 represents a sub-group of union members in Long Island NY.
The leadership of this unit wanted to create a site to communicate
with members.
I met with the leadership to define their online strategy. We defined that the goals for the site were to save money on photocopies of forms and mailings, and to keep the membership updated on the latest news. It was decided that we would create a site that was supplemented with updated content from a blog that they maintained.
We reviewed their offline communication materials (such as forms and brochures) and determined what could be used for content on the site and what new content (logo and leadership bios) needed to be created.
Finally we agreed that in order to keep the site current, the news had to be updated on a regular basis. We developed a content update schedule and appointed a person to make these updates. We created a list of examples of possible topics on light-news weeks, such as meeting dates, training information, and reminders about available forms. I provided training on how to make the updates to the blog.
Today csea8759.com is a valuable resource for online members. The Unit drives traffic to the site by promoting at every meeting, as well as on its print materials. They also hold contests online for prizes to help maintain its traffic.

TheGiftisLovex5.com

The Gift is Love x5 is a wonderful little gift shop in
Rockaway Queens. The owner, Denise, wanted to create a site
that would help advertise her store, and highlight the large
selection of the gift products and ideas her store offers.
I met with Denise in 2007, and took pictures of some of favorite items to feature on the site. As there is a high turnover of inventory in the store, and the business is not ready to open a storefront on the web, we decided to use a blog to highlight the new arrivals and seasonal items.
Denise promotes her website Thegiftislovex5.com on her business cards and advertising. The site gets traffic from our listing on Google, and blog postings.
